1996 Metso Infeed Conveyor

This conveyor was feeding an 80x104 auto shredder

Originally installed in 1996 with partial rebuilds in 2011 and 2016

Condition as assessed in 2017 after shredder was idled:

  • Foundations (repairs needed) - no structural issues, but severe wear on all corners
  • Support Structures (critical issues) - bent vertical support on incline section
  • Lower Horizontal (critical issues) - belt was ran off track and has eaten into the main structure
  • Incline (critical issues) - belt was ran off track and has eaten into the main structure
  • Upper Horizontal (critical issues) - belt was ran off track and has eaten into the main structure
  • Wear Rails (no issues/light wear) - just replaced
  • Load Idlers (no issues/light wear) - just replaced
  • Return Idlers (critical issues) - not manufacture specified unit
  • Tail Pulley
    • Shaft (repairs needed) - not new, light wear
    • Bearings (no issues/light wear) - new
    • Idlers - unknown
  • Head Pulley
    • Shaft (repairs needed) - possible bend, needs inspected further
    • Bearings (repairs needed)
    • Sprockets (repairs needed) - assumed based on what we could see
  • Chain (repairs needed) - not new, light wear
  • Track Pads (repairs needed) - 90% good, a portion appears very bad
  • Guarding (repairs needed) - tail pulley bearing guards needed
  • Material Containment (critical issues) - gap between conveyor and belt is too large, sideskirting issue
  • Hydraulic Power Unit ( some needed repairs) light wear

Recommended Repairs:

  • Structural Support - rear incline support
  • Side Structure
  • Side Skirt - lower all skirting closer to belt
  • Return Idlers - replace all
  • Tracks - light repairs
